Metro, the daily print medium you will undoubtedly find on the seat next to you on the subway, published its Focus on Urban Water supplement yesterday. Water Canada provided the written material, and I'm proud of our writers for doing a great job. Our friend Duncan Keeley made a neat infographic about a business-suited raindrop, too. Check it out if you get a chance.
Grandma's laundry
My grandma and I looked through her slide collection a few months ago. It took me awhile to find the best angle to capture the images from the wall. This one is an outtake, but I like the cloudy colours.
The adventure is over
"The adventure is over. Everything gets over, and nothing is ever enough. Except the part you carry with you. It's the same as going on a vacation. Some people spend all their time on a vacation taking pictures so that when they get home they can show their friends evidence that they had a good time. They don't pause to let the vacation enter inside of them and take that home."
-- E.L. Konigsburg, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
This book fascinated me in my early years. Two precocious children running away to live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Recently I re-read it, and it's every bit as good as I'd remembered. A true classic.
Young winter moon
Spent the afternoon in snow and boots with a storyteller who does an uncanny impression of a muskrat. Or, at least, what I am now convinced a muskrat must look like.
With the new year comes promise. Chi miigwetch.
A big week for water
A few months ago, Canadian water policy guru Robert Sandford asked me to write an endorsement for his upcoming book, Cold Matters: The State and Fate of Canada's Fresh Water. Although I don't feel worthy of being on the same page as the likes of seasoned experts David Boyd and Jim Bruce, it was a pleasure to contribute a few thoughts.
Over lunch in Ottawa last week, Bob gave me a signed copy of the book, which is just about to hit the shelves. Another treasured item to add to my #waternerd archives!
While nursing a cold and fawning over my new book, I also quietly celebrated the release of the latest issue of Corporate Knights, which includes my article on emerging water technologies. Visit my archives to read it.
